Our Resource Manager, Stephanie Wafforn started her career with Pretivm as an Exploration Geologist in 2017. She first discovered her love for geology in university when she took her first course in the field. The combination of sciences was particularly appealing to her, and the field component that allowed her to work outside and travel was a welcome bonus. “Geology has given me the opportunity to travel the world, experience new cultures, and see lots of really interesting rocks. I also love the thrill of discovery working in exploration,” she says.
After working on several projects in Latin America she decided to pursue a PhD in Economic Geology at the University of Texas at Austin prior to joining the Pretivm Exploration team. She goes on to say, “Some geologists go their entire careers without seeing visible gold, and we get to see it almost daily working at Pretium. These are complex systems to understand and explore, but the mountains in Northern BC are gorgeous so I often feel like I’m a tourist at work.”
In 2020, Stephanie was promoted to the role of Resource Manager which allowed her to further develop her leadership skills and learn more about different aspects of the geology at Brucejack, including modeling and resource estimation. “The technical team at Pretivm is a wonderful and talented group of people, and I enjoy learning from everyone,” she says.
